Heavy Winds Can Cause Debris

8/2/2021 (Permalink)

Debris is blown onto a drain. A clean storm drain doesn’t stay that way when heavy winds and rain cover it with debris, leaving standing water to flow directly towards a home.

There are different types of wind associated with storms. The term straight-line wind is used to differentiate between tornadic winds and just the winds of a thunderstorm. A gust front is the leading edge of rain-cooled air about to collide with warmer air, it’s out in front of a thunderstorm. There are macrobursts (large outward bursts of strong winds), and microbursts (small concentrated downbursts). There are even derechos and haboobs. A derecho is defined as a widespread, long-lived wind storm associated with a band of rapidly moving showers or thunderstorms. A haboob is a wall of dust pushed along the ground by a thunderstorm’s downdraft. It’s safe to say wind is unpredictable, and capable of causing damage and problems in the blink of an eye, sending water where it doesn’t need to be. Whether it’s roof damage or a drain clogged with debri, winds can lead to water damage. Call SERVPRO of Brandon today!
